Working Principle

The spiral classifier operates in an inclined trough where feed slurry is introduced at the mid-point. Heavier and coarser particles settle to the bottom and are conveyed upward along the trough incline by the rotating spiral rakes, emerging as dewatered sand product at the top. Finer and lighter particles remain suspended in the overflowing slurry and discharge over the weir at the lower end as overflow (fines product). The separation cut size is controlled by adjusting weir height, spiral speed, and trough inclination angle.
