New Mine Approval Establishes Beebyn Hub as Core of Weld Range Operations
Fenix Resources (ASX: FEX) has secured key regulatory and environmental approvals for the development of its Beebyn-W10 iron ore mine, located adjacent to the existing Beebyn-W11 operation within the Weld Range Project in Western Australia's Mid-West region. The approvals establish the Beebyn Hub as a central pillar of Fenix's growth strategy.
Approvals Received
- Mining Development and Closure Proposal (MDCP): Approved by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS)
- Native Vegetation Clearing Permit: Granted by DEMIRS for Stage 1 development
- Prescribed Premises Works Licence: Granted by the Department of Water and Environmental Protection (DWER), supporting up to 6 Mtpa capacity at the Beebyn Hub
- Cultural Heritage Agreement: Letter of consent signed with the Wajarri Yamaji People for mining commencement at Beebyn-W10
Production Plan and Timeline
Ore production from Beebyn-W10 is expected to commence during the current quarter, with first ore on ship anticipated during the December 2026 quarter. Together, Beebyn-W11 and Beebyn-W10 will form the Beebyn Hub, with combined production ramping to up to 6 Mtpa under Fenix's 3-Year Production Plan targeting FY28 delivery. Crushing capacity at the Hub is being expanded to support the increased throughput.
Weld Range Project Significance
In September 2025, Fenix secured a binding 30-year exclusive right to mine and export iron ore from the Weld Range Project, which holds JORC 2012 compliant global resources of 290 million tonnes at 56.8% Fe. A definitive feasibility study for the broader project is expected to be completed by end of 2026, with Fenix targeting approximately 10 Mtpa production capacity by 2031 and operations continuing until 2042.
